NA1 Jumps 6.1% as Election Night Viewers Pile In; Media Stocks Lead, OP Gas Slips
New A 1's own shares led the NASE on a record-watching election night, with Madison Broadcasting and CNN riding the same wave while OP Gas and Apple drifted lower.
Full disclosure first: the stock everyone on the NASE floor was talking about at 4 AM is ours. New A 1 closed the overnight session up 6.1% at $34.77, up 3.5% on the week, topping a Composite that edged up 0.6% to 1110.5.
The brief explains the climb plainly. Every NA1 election story since Monday's watch guide posted a gain on the exchange tape, from the 1.0% pop on the guide to the 0.4% bump on the 9 PM call for Kathy Hochul and another 0.4% at 1 AM as the count hit 86%. Traders read the steady drip as a bet that a long, close-to-the-curb election night keeps borough viewers tuned to local cable.
Other media names rode the same minecart. Madison Broadcasting rose 4.4% and CNN 2.5%, while FOX News slipped 0.2%. Juniors and Vanderbilt Industries also gained more than 4%, though nothing in the brief explains those moves beyond a buoyant overnight floor.
On the losing side, OP Gas fell 1.4%, extending dips that followed each report of Blakeman's anti-toll campaign falling short and a Democratic Congress eyeing drillers. Apple lost 1.1% and General Motors 0.7%. Bulls caution, though, that election ratings bumps fade fast, and one floor trader said some of the gain is likely to be sold off once Long Island's still-dark board finally lights up.
For renters and riders, the takeaway is simpler: the congestion toll stays with Hochul's called win, and the board is pricing in steadier transit money. Statewide, Hochul leads 60.2% to 39.8% with 87% reported, while Man A, New BK, Long Island and New S still show zero.

The story’s move on each stock. The NASE prices it in fast — about 74% of it within the hour of publication. 40% of the shock is permanent; the other 60% fades with a 10-day half-life, so 70% of the move is still in the price 10 days later. Right: the price now and today’s change.
