State and City confirm Atlantic Terminal for 2027; concourse steel rises this fall
The Governor and the Mayor signed the terminal’s final funding order at 4 Mii A Avenue. The state’s matching emeralds and the toll’s are now in the same account.
The State of New A and City Hall today confirmed a 2027 opening for Atlantic Terminal, the Metro hub under construction at 4 Mii A Avenue in Downtown New BK. Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed the final funding order on the site, which the Land Registry lists as BK-0047, under construction.
The order merges the two sources of money promised in April — the Congestion Relief Zone’s share and the state’s emerald-for-emerald match — into a single construction account the Metro authority can draw on without returning to the legislature. Steel for the concourse is scheduled to rise from October; the platforms are already dug.
“The state runs the Metro, and the state is going to finish its station,” the Governor said. “Every emerald the toll has collected is in this hole, and I mean that as a compliment to the hole.” The Mayor said the terminal will put Downtown New BK “one transfer from everywhere” and that he intends to time the first train himself.
Madison International Realty, the terminal’s equity partner, will build the retail level above the concourse. Juniors, on Atlantic Parkway, has asked for the escalators to face its door. The request is under review.
Atlantic Terminal has been promised for 2027 before. This is the first time the date has come with a signed order. City Hall will post construction milestones on the Registry wire as the record changes.
