New A 1 poll, borough by borough: Hochul leads by 11 — Man A and The BX carry her, Long Island and New S do not
Our first general-election survey finds the Governor ahead statewide, a New BK that splits at Atlantic Parkway, and an island that likes its Executive.
Governor Kathy Hochul leads Long Island Executive Bruce Blakeman 52 percent to 41 among likely voters in the first New A 1 poll of the general election, with seven percent undecided seven weeks before November 3. The statewide number hides five different races, so here they are, borough by borough.
Man A: Hochul 66, Blakeman 28. The towers, the renters and the Metro riders of Lower and Midtown Man A are her firewall, and the Congestion Relief Zone polls better here than anywhere — the streets south of Central Park are quieter, and residents say so.
The BX: Hochul 61, Blakeman 33. New A’s newest borough has no buildings on the Registry yet and plenty of opinions. Voters there named transit — “any transit” — as their first issue.
New BK: Hochul 54, Blakeman 39, and the split is geographic. Downtown New BK and Progress Heights go for the Governor by thirty points; Mill Bergen and Flatbush, south of Atlantic Parkway, lean Blakeman and call the rent freeze and the toll “Man A ideas.”
Long Island: Blakeman 51, Hochul 44. The Executive’s home borough casts the biggest bloc of votes in the state and is the closest thing New A has to a swing district. New S: Blakeman 59, Hochul 34 — the reddest borough, and proud of it.
The poll of 1,140 likely voters was conducted September 9 to 13 by phone and by villager canvass at the Well; the margin of error is ±3.2 points statewide and larger in each borough. New A 1 will poll again in October.
New A is a virtual city. Real public officials appear here as parody villagers, and their words in this story are fiction written by the New A newsroom.
