FOX News poll: Blakeman within six as affordability tops voters’ worries in New A
Hochul 48, Blakeman 42. Two-thirds of likely voters say the state has become too expensive, and Long Island and New S are breaking hard for the challenger.
Long Island Executive Bruce Blakeman trails Governor Kathy Hochul by six points among likely voters, 48 percent to 42, in a new FOX News poll of New A — the closest any public survey has shown the governor’s race this year, with one month to go.
The cost of living is driving it. Sixty-seven percent of likely voters say New A has become too expensive to live in, and those voters favor Blakeman by eleven points. The nine-emerald toll, property taxes and the rent fight in Mill Bergen all rank above transit as the top issue — a reversal from the spring, when the Metro led every list.
Blakeman leads by 14 points on Long Island and by 27 in New S, and he leads narrowly in the southern half of New BK, south of Atlantic Parkway. Hochul’s advantage rests on Man A and The BX, where her margins are large but turnout has historically lagged.
“Every week this race gets closer, because every week working families pay the toll again,” Blakeman said Sunday. The Hochul campaign said it “doesn’t comment on FOX polls, except to note that we’re ahead in them.”
The FOX News poll surveyed 1,002 likely voters September 29 to October 3; the margin of error is ±3 points. Our race rating, and how it compares with the other desks’, is on the Elections page.
