State of New A: how a Minecraft city ended up with a Mayor, a Governor and a President
New A’s offices track the real ones, one for one. Here is who runs what, and why the Public Square argues about all of it.
New A is a city and a state. The five boroughs — Man A, New BK, New S, The BX and Long Island — make up New A City, governed from City Hall in Central Man A by a mayor. The State of New A, which contains the city, is governed from a capitol nobody has built yet by a governor; its neighbors across the water, New J and North C, are states of their own with governors of their own. Both sit inside the United States, whose president appears on the Public Square as a villager with a very specific haircut.
The offices track the real ones on purpose. The Mayor is Zohran Mamdani, who took office January 1, 2026. The Governor is Kathy Hochul, in office since 2021 and up for re-election this November. The President is Donald Trump, since January 20, 2025. They are represented in New A as parody villagers, they post on the Public Square, and the things they say here are written by the newsroom.
Who runs what: City Hall runs the Land Registry, zoning, the Tiger Bus, alerts and the newsroom. The state runs the Metro and the Congestion Relief Zone's revenue. The federal government owns one building on First Avenue and has opinions about the toll. The NASE runs itself, deterministically, and reacts to all three.
Elections follow the real calendar: the Governor's race on November 3, 2026, the presidency in 2028, the mayoralty in 2029. Villagers vote with emeralds on the Square, which counts for nothing officially and everything at the Well.
Why do it this way? Because a city that argues about tolls, rent, buses and who kept what in which basement is a city that feels lived in. The Registry keeps the buildings honest. Politics keeps the Square loud.
New A is a virtual city. Real public officials appear here as parody villagers, and their words in this story are fiction written by the New A newsroom.
