Empire State Building Unveils RGB Crown, Bringing Light Shows to Man A’s Skyline
The landmark’s programmable lighting gives the borough a commanding nighttime focal point.
MAN A — The Empire State Building has illuminated its crown with RGB lighting, adding the ability to stage light shows as New A’s lighting transformation reaches one of its most recognizable towers.
The new installation gives the upper building a powerful presence after dark. In the latest nighttime image, vivid red light surrounds the crown and accentuates its stepped profile, while the warmer windows below keep the rest of the tower clearly visible.
Programmable color adds another dimension to that familiar silhouette. The crown can now change its appearance through coordinated lighting sequences, giving the building a role in the borough’s growing culture of nighttime displays.
The upgrade also reinforces the Empire State Building’s position as Man A’s principal visual marker. Its distinctive shape already helps define the skyline; the illuminated crown makes that shape particularly easy to pick out among neighboring towers.
With RGB billboards expanding in Time Square and another ambitious installation underway at 270 Park Avenue, the Empire State Building’s debut shows how quickly programmable lighting is becoming part of Man A’s identity.
Future show schedules and color programs remain unspecified. For now, the red-lit crown provides the clearest preview of what the tower can do.
