Hochul Up 40.7 at 40% Counted — But Long Island and the City Boroughs Still Show Zero
With the race long since called for Kathy Hochul, New A's board at 11:31 PM still has only The BX in among the city boroughs, while Blakeman's Long Island base waits to be counted.
The race was called for Kathy Hochul at 9:00 PM, but New A's big board is still crawling. At 11:31 PM, with 40% reported statewide, Hochul leads Bruce Blakeman 70.3% to 29.7%, a margin of 40.7 points. That number has not budged since it posted at 10:12 PM.
Where is it coming from? On the city map, only The BX has reported: 90% in, 34 of an expected 38 votes, all from BX Homesteads, where Hochul leads by 64.7. The rest of the statewide tally sits off the city map, where 72,000 votes are expected at a full count.
Everything else is a blank. Man A, New BK, Long Island and New S all show 0% reported. That means Flatbush's 9,400 votes, Midtown Man A's 6,400 and Downtown New BK's 7,600 are still out — Democratic strongholds that will pad Hochul's lead. But so is Blakeman country: Long Island's 8,200 votes, led by Soundview at 3,000 and North Shore at 2,200, plus New S's 4,600 across South Shore and North Shore.
For drivers who spent the day hoping to punish the congestion toll, it's a long wait to see their ballots on the board. "We've been sitting here since nine watching zeros next to our name," said a Soundview commuter outside the OP Gas Station in West Long Island. "Call it whatever you want — we want our votes counted."
Is it close? No. Hochul's lead is lopsided and the call stands. The only real suspense left is how Long Island and New S shave the margin once they finally report — and whether Blakeman, the Long Island Executive, carries his home turf as the final polls suggested he could run strong outside the city.
Until those boroughs post, the 40.7-point spread is a partial picture, built on a sliver of The BX and votes from beyond the city map.
